Detergent Surfactant
Surfactants are the work horses of the detergent formulation, satisfying the fundamental consumer need for a ‘clean wash’. Surfactants come in various guises and can be used in a multitude of different formulations. AMCOL Detergent Specialties offer a number of granules, covering a wide range of surfactants on different carriers. This gives you the flexibility to fine tune the formulation to suit your own market place. This range of products is particularly useful for batch production.

Anionic Surfactants
- The main detergent surfactant LAS, is agglomerated onto a zeolite or a bentonite carrier. Both offer excellent dispersion of the surfactant into the wash liquor, while providing a strong, free flowing granule for ease of handling. High surfactant activities maximise the active content.
Alkyl Sulphate
- A high performance surfactant is agglomerated onto a zeolite carrier or a bentonite carrier. Both offer excellent dispersion of the surfactant onto the wash liquor, while providing a strong, free flowing granule for ease of handling. Lower surfactant activities are used to maximise dissolution and cost effectiveness.
Nonionic Surfactants
- For greasy stain removal the non-ionic surfactants give excellent performance. A range of products are agglomerated onto a zeolite or bentonite carrier. Granule construction is optimised to give high activity and yet minimise “leakage” of the surfactant upon ageing.
Cationic Surfactants
- The formulation of a cationic in the detergent solution can give a boost to stain removal. With relatively low levels of cationics, the zwiterionic formed can give a significant boost. A cationic is agglomerated on a zeolite or a bentonite carrier. Activities are optimised for a cost effective product which gives a significant performance boost.
FORMULATION
Anionic Surfactants
- LAS is normally used at levels of 5-15% in the formulation. The activity of our granules, 30-40%, allows for granule incorporation between 17-38%. The lower levels of addition allow for surfactancy with a good softening through the wash performance when using bentonite as the carrier. The higher levels offer excellent surfactancy with a good builder performance when using zeolite as the carrier.
- AES is a high performance surfactant that is usually used in conjunction with LAS. Normal formulation would use between 3-5%. The activity of our granules, 15%, allows for a granule incorporation of 20-33% on a zeolite carrier.
Nonionic Surfactants
- A range of non-ionics is offered:
C14-16 7EO; C14-16 5EO; C14-16 3EO
These offer excellent greasy stain removal and a normal formulation level would be 3-5%. The activities of our granules, 15-45%, allows for granule incorporation between 20-25%.
